Glossary of Terms:

 

Barter- The cashless exchange of Goods and Services.

Non-Performing Assets - Products or Services that if not used would be lost or their value greatly depreciated. ie.  If a Hotel Room or Airline seat is not sold then that potential revenue is lost forever.

Barter Dollar “ The medium of exchange used in a Barter Transaction!  Each Barter dollar is valued as one U.S.  dollar!

Barter Organization  A third Party Record keeping organization that organizes and maintains the memberships and performs the accounting of Barter and Trade transactions using a debit and credit bookkeeping method.

Trade  The Cashless Exchange of Goods and Services!

Trade Dollar - The medium of exchange used in a Barter Transaction!  Each Barter dollar is valued as one U.S.  dollar!

Trade Unit - The medium of exchange used in a Barter Transaction! Each Barter dollar is valued as one U.S.  dollar!

Scrip Dollar - The medium of exchange used in Certificate Form for use in payment of a product or service. ie.  $20 certificate good for use at a Hotel or  Restaurant.  A gift certificate used for payment for goods or Services.

Scrip Certificate A Printed or emailed Certificate or Letter Printed with all necessary  information of Issuer, Location, Value, Product or Service good for, Valid  Dates, Expiration date if any, and ID Number.

Counter-Trade   Foreign sales contract involving a commitment on behalf of exporter to the  overseas customer to purchase within a fixed time period Goods from the foreign country amounting to a specific percentage of the original sales contract.

Local Barter organization or membership of local businesses that Barter and Trade Products and Services in that local geographic area! Example local restaurants use  Vendors like Produce, Meat, Seafood and printers together with plumbers, Electrical Contractors, Carpet Cleaning Services etc.

Corporate Barter Large or Small wholesale corporations who don’t usually sell to the public,  however do sell to other Barter and Trade members items from close outs, end of  line merchandise and their regular products! They in turn, purchase Advertising,  Shipping services, printing, shipping materials, etc. etc.

 

Scrip Clearing House Barter Organization formed in early 1986 by the founder of ABTC as a service organization that managed the printing, collecting and distribution of scrip for various travel, entertainment, foodservices, hotels, motels,  advertising medias, transportation and recreational services using a  computerized directory.  Some of the  selected categories were:

Airlines, Hotels, Condos, Resorts, Cruise Lines, Travel  agencies, Radio Stations, Television Stations, Magazines, Newspapers,  Advertisers, Direct Mail, Billboard, Restaurants, Printers, taxi services, Car Rentals, Messenger and Delivery Services, Media Brokers, Trade Clubs and Trade  Brokers!

 

Scrip Trading The use of Scrip Certificates instead of Cash to purchase Products and Services.

 

Non-Performing Assets  - Those Assets which do not currently yield a return on investment (ROI). Examples: excess inventory, excess capacity, empty hotel rooms, empty seats!

 

Needs  Those Products or services that are needed to continue operation of business. Example: advertising, printing, raw material, crews quarters, food, etc.

 

Wants - Those  Products that you don’t need to operate your business however might be used for  increased employee relations, advertising into new marketplaces, employee award programs and customer premiums programs.

 

Barter/Trade Broker  A trained person who monitors, introduces  potential Traders, locates potential products and services and oversees a group  of member/clients/companies trading or bartering activities.  Recommends Barter and Trade opportunities to  members and helps in the recruitment of Vendors for their members.
